Let them eat cake...Cake Pops that is!

When I found out that my good friend Minda was starting to sell her cake pops, I knew I had to photograph them! You've heard of cake pops right?  Yummy bits of cake, enveloped in scrumptious icing, decorated in delightful detail, and placed on a lollipop stick for your eating pleasure.

This is a recent batch Minda made for a wedding; guests got to munch on these as the wedding cake.

When individually wrapped, they also work great as favors for your wedding guests!

This was one delicious shoot!  I literally had to eat them so I would stop photographing them...ahh the life of a photographer is so hard ;)

Watching Minda work was really fun. I tell you, this girl is good!

Here's a sweet deal for all of you blog readers:  everyone that leaves a comment from now until midnight on Monday May 23rd will be entered into a drawing for 2 dozen free cake pops!

You can also get in on the action by tweeting or posting on Facebook about this blog post.  Make sure to mention @MindaC and @izehi on Twitter, or tag me or Minda in your Facebook post for your online shout out to count.

Need a Wedding Gown?

Getting married soon and still looking for the perfect dress?  Here's a wonderful opportunity to get a steal of a deal and help out a good cause at the same time!

Brides Against Breast Cancer's Charity Wedding Gown Sale will be in Dallas Thursday July 21-Saturday July 23.  Most of the gowns range from $99-$799 and over half of the dresses are brand new designer gowns directly from designers, manufacturers, and bridal retailers.  Last year some Stanley Korshak gowns were spotted on the racks, and this year, some other great names just might be in the mix.

If you're not in need of a wedding dress, but still want to do some good, come out Thursday for the VIP night or  volunteer.  We just might see each other there!

Cooking like Mom

Of all the things my mom can cook, one of my absolute favorites is her stew.  A traditional Nigerian stew can best be described as a rich creamy red sauce, most commonly eaten with rice.  Think the best spaghetti sauce you've ever had; but ten times better.  It's a dish that's easy to make, but hard to make well. For Easter, I strapped on an apron and grabbed my wooden spoon, determined to make stew as good as my mom's. After hours of stirring, tasting, and ferverently praying I wouldn't screw up, I confess that I felt pretty darn proud of myself. If I closed my eyes while licking the spoon, my stew almost tasted just like mom's.  YES!

Then a couple of days ago, I tasted my mom's freshly made stew.  Blast it, I'd just been deceiving myself.  Nothing I made compared with her homey goodness.

Happy Mother's Day Mom! I'm grateful for all that you do, and of course for your delicious stews.  Maybe someday mine will taste as good as yours :)
